JULY! My favorite month for so many reasons! It's the first full month of summer, my birthday is on the 12th (yay!), the 4th of July and fireworks, and because of Plastic Free July where we try to gain awareness in how much plastic we actually use! According to an article by National Geographic (2018), in six decades, 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic was created. 6.3 billion metric tons became plastic waste and of that, only 9% was recycled. ONLY 9%!?!? And plastic takes more 400 years to break down. We use a ton of plastic everyday and I've tried to find alternatives to how I package my lunch, etc., but one place we don't usually think of going plastic free is in the shower. When making the transition to plastic free products, it can be really challenging to find products that perform in the same way that our tried and true products do. However, I am excited to share a new brand that I discovered, named Ethique. While on the internet, hunting for more sustainable products, I came across Ethique and they have products ranging from hair care, face care, body care, some baby items, pet care, and laundry bar. I settled on a trial pack for normal skin and hair and I can say that I am OBSESSED! I have used some Lush "naked" items (and don't get me wrong, I love them), but I cannot get enough of Ethique! I'm not big on heavily scented and their products are scented with essential oil, so it is just enough for my personal taste, and they smell amazing. After testing this affordable sample pack ($13 for solid shampoo, solid conditioner, solid face wash, solid lotion) for the week, my hair looks and feels better than ever. Better than when I have used my regular liquid shampoo! It does not leave a film on my fine, veryyyy long hair and it brings out my waves so that I look like I've been enjoying the beach as it doesn't weigh my hair down. The conditioner also softens my hair the way that it should. The face bar is amazing and does not strip my skin and I am all about using a solid lotion! It feels like a massage when I rub the solid lotion onto my legs and is a lovely slice of self care! Check them out and give plastic free a try!
